Rate That Curry was first founded and purchased as a domain in November 2010, the company began trading in April 2011 as a bid to support curry houses in the UK to compete online. Rate That Meal Ltd have websites produced for curry houses and will soon feature them on ratethatcurry.com for users to write reviews.

Founded by Abdul Khan, ratethatcurry.com came about after a short business trip in Oxford; missing his mothers home cooked food, he asked a hotel manager to recommend the best curry house in the city. This failing, he searched online on his return home for what would have been best in Oxford and was surprised in not finding a website which effectively met his search.

Abdul has been involved in the curry industry from a very young age, his (late) father had managed and owned several restaurants and takeaways in his career as a chef. Though he was never allowed to work in them, Abdul did find a job while studying for his A Levels to manage a family friends' takeaway. He enjoyed the responsibility and assumed he would one day have his own takeaway to manage.

Abdul was reluctant to attend University; however, his parents had twisted his arm, he went on to study Management and Marketing at the Leicester Business School, it is here he developed a keen interest in Digital Marketing. After graduating he was employed as a marketing executive to a graduate recruitment service, based in the Midlands. He then moved on to work in the Advertising industry as a Digital Account Manager, where he managed the construction of websites and execution of online marketing campaigns for a wide variety of clients.
